Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel has blamed President Trump for the whole outcome of the Jussie Smollett scenario based on Trump’s creation of a “toxic environment” where someone would even allegedly fabricate a fake attack.
This comes just days after waves were made where it became apparent that Michelle Obama and George Soros had intervened in the case to get the charges dropped.
“My recommendation is the president go to Opening Day baseball, sit on the sidelines and stay out of this,” Emanuel told reporters.
The major has since called Chicago a “Trump-free zone,” insinuating that there will be some sort of penalty or persecution for supporting Trump in the city limits.
“Let me be clear about something. The only reason Jussie Smollett thought he could take advantage of a hoax about a hate crime is because of the environment, the toxic environment that Donald Trump created,” Emanuel said, and he continued: “He’s created a toxic environment and now he’s created a toxic, vicious cycle in my view. The only reason Jussie Smollett thought he could get away with this hoax about a hate crime is because of the environment President Trump created.”
Emanuel has been a constant critic of the President. The President did say that federal authorities will be looking into the Smollett case to find the truth.
In response, Trump said “I think the case in Chicago is an absolute embarrassment to our country, and I have asked that they look at it” to reporters on the White House lawn.
